One quibble – there’s no junior and senior “officers” ban – it’s on junior and senior *ranks* (from COS down to the lowliest Recruit).

Actually, gays and lesbians have always had a high (unofficial) visibility within the DF – for the simple reason that everyone knows everyone, secrets are nigh-impossible to keep in such an environment, and word gets around fast. As to “folklore”, most such tales will probably remain unknown to the public in truest DF tradition – such as the one about a certain CQ who liked to surprise bods on LD in the Curragh in the summer of 1994, he wearing nothing but a pair of cowboy boots…
