I don't think governments actually consider most of the issues they legislate for with any great insight into how it affects people's private lives.

Live and let live, say I.

And have a great holiday.
I've really enjoyed reading your blog.

(Link is to some pink roses... They're fashionable at the moment and I took up photography to stop myself thinking about social issues.)

Now I'm free from servitude in the possibly the most boring job on the planet, and more energised, I can say that your blog entry makes some crucial points...

Firstly it has to be recognised that gender *is* the new closet ... poor old pro-marriage people completely ignore a lot of well-written anthropological writing of how marriage is the exchange of women between two men. 'Always the bridesmaid, never the bride' is such an unfortunate slogan, is it suggesting that we are stigmatised people now because we can't marriage? That's crazy talk. It is also - surely - a heterosexualised slogan which *covers* our cultural specificity. So Canadians find marriage isn't all it is cracked up to be... yawn... any of us who are/ have ever been in relationships MUST realise that relations (incl. marriage) has to be worked at every day. Marriage won't "complete" us as humans. Now go off and read you Giddens on the transformation of intimacy and then think about how to promote same-sex relationships with a bit more creativity and a bit more sensitivity to those who are quite happy being single, serially monogamous or anything inbetween. All a bit academic when I don't think the government has or had any intention of doing anything anyhow!!!

Have a wonderful holiday Suzy!
