It does seem strange indeed to voluntarily send your child to a school run by an organisation involved in the widespread sexual abuse of children but perhaps their decision was based on the dire state of most public schools in the States. Of course the problem here is that the vast majority of our publicly funded schools are controlled by the church and most parents don't have a choice. That’s true Sean. Globally, the church should be removed from running any schools. Ever. The institution's tepid response to the abuse scandal means, to me, that it should be barred from educational roles. In the light of clerical abuse, I really do wonder why a lesbian couple would, in their right mind, want to send their son to a Catholic school. + 1 on that Adam. But to use an innocent child as a weapon in this way marks a new low, even for the catholic church. It could easily happen here, except the options available to Irish same-sex parents would be much more limited in a system where 90% plus of our schools are controlled by this discredited organisation.
