What a load of old ...(to quote the granny in Catherine Tate)

For something like this to work, schools need to be involved from the start - and how many schools allow their kids to access Twitter and Facebook? I'm sure you could count the number on one hand! These are certainly not the kind of sites kids are going to be bothered about when they're sitting at home playing shoot-em-up rubbish, but if it had been set up properly in schools, they might have had more success?

Having said that, even with schools on board, crap material is crap material!

@Sabrina - I'd help with that. How much money was spent on this? How much are Carr Communications being paid?

I'm sitting here in bemused amazement. Seriously.

Keith I think that we too readily assume that knife carriers are not net users or don't have computer access - the last case of a teenager convicted of manslaughter I remember was regarding a young man from a family where both parents were professionals and indeed was from the town which gave everyone cheap/easy computer access as part of some internet superhighway experiment.

The msg and manner of communicating it is shite all the same!

>What do you think about carrying a knife? Is it cool?

As ever - shite messaging is shite messaging, regardless of the medium. Talk to a kid who's carrying a knife like he's 6, and he'll ignore you.
Quite aside from that, you're supposed to pick a medium that your target audience is actually using. Don't advertise your partnership with CA's business management software in the My Little Pony comic. I wonder what the statistics are regarding correlations between persons under 18 caught in posession of an offensive weapon and those with internet access at home. I'd guess it's a pretty small overlap.

Two things:

1. Yet another example of an abominable waste of public money (i.e. the money the government takes from our pay cheques every month.) Why do people not get more distressed by the amount ouf our money that is pissed away by this shower!?! If some prick forced their way into your front room and robbed €90 off you every third day and then promptly burned most of it in front of your very eye, you'd be pretty upset. You may even assault the prick in question (and you'd be perfectly justified in doing so.) If it wasn't so tragic it would be hilarious.

2. "As someone who knows a little bit about social media and an awful lot more about steroids I’d be questioning the dosage used."

I'm curious: Tell us more!!

And me thinks the Equality Authority did a "viral marketing" element to this year's campaign against ageism. It would be interesting to see what bite that made.

I now have the sincere urge to start a knife crime awareness campaign aimed at under-20s (a topic in which I do not have any more interest than the average citizen) as a case study in social media. At the end, I'd report on time spent, funds invested, and quantifiable outcomes.

It really isn't that hard, *especially* if you've some budget. And it REALLY needn't cost that much for the taxpayers, either. I'm pretty confident I could get 400% results with 1-2% of the funds.
