"Symphysiotomy" - Oh, Jesus, there's a term for that? I feel very ill.

That feeling is not helped by the fact that what I presume RTÉ regards as a "women's" programme is given that title, and from the sickly blurbs is going to be the most derivative filler and fluff.

What next, a reading of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" for "ethnic" listeners? "Will & Grace" re-runs for the gays?
etc.

Bloody hell.

Symphysiotomy - that's a word I didn't know, sounds gross to me, quite barbaric, and it is evocative of how women have little power at times over their bodies. There are such unbelievable cases, this, the hysterectomies, etc. that silence women.

I do remember my mother, who had me at 6.5 months (after a fall at work) in Jersey, told me in hushed tones one day how the midwife at the time almost pinned her down with a breast pump trying to produce milk in some ideological frenzy that she should breast feed because it was her duty. It gave me me some sense of how women were disempowered by medical power.

btw: While browsing one day in the library, I found an annual report from a hospital (Dunn's I think) which referred to various types of childbirth stats, one was "moles"... any idea on it, I thought it meant abortion or miscarriages?

I do not understand the RTE effort here to hide this glitz on RTE Choice. DAB is/was marketed at yummies mostly but they should have 30-45 mins of this on FM and kick it into EXTRA time 2hrs on DAB.

Sure look at the names listed, there will be a monotone of OMG's & giggles. "Hen party", they said it.

Women’s Scéal Radio it is not :(

But it will be great to hear a Baldoyle voice on air ;) Jennifer Maguire is from around the corner.
