Jesus. What a sloppy bastard. If this is the effort he was putting into his economic papers then good riddance. Looking at that letter we might have had another Bertie Ahern aka Bernie Madoff on the front bench. Lucky escape.
For some reason I’m thinking George has an ulterior motive. He does look a bit like Bilbo Baggins.
+1 itchy! It is a woeful letter from what Avid Merrion would call a “shelabraty” politician.
Just how has he done (his) “best to play a positive role in contributing to the national debate and to efforts to find a solution form many of the country’s economic problems”?
He seems to lack the basic knowledge about how the party system worked. Years ago, two management types came up with the catchphrase that you should “stick to the knitting” in business, and Lee should have stuck to journalism.
Aye. He got in over his head alright. Journalism might be a tough business but in comparison to politics it’s like comparing fisticuffs with cannibalism.
Lee entered a party in opposition. With no sign of the collapse of the current coalition in sight, there were no real positions for Lee to go to in FG. I do think his views were being taken on board but its not good practice in any form of organisation to have a single individual dictate policy. If thats what Lee wanted he was in the wrong business. I suspect he wrongly believed that the coalition would collapse and he’d be quickly elevated. In fairness, I think this probably would have happened in that scenario.
Ironically, if you choose to believe this reading, then its the current one-party-state that is the problem and not FG etc. Sadly, when people give up opposing it allows these one party state to continue.
2 cheers for Deirdre de Burca for bringing political integrity back into politics in a week where there has been very little of it on show.

This has the ” here’s something I prepared earlier” feel to it.
“I would like thank most sincerely” ? Hmmm… something very very rushed about that. Bizarre.
My 4 and half year old daughter has a more convincing, grown-up and believable signature. That’s all I have to say.
I thought this was going to be about de Burca’s resignation letter. Resignation letters are VERY this week.
