Maman Poulet | Clucking away crookedly through media, politics and life

All Blogged out…

March 4th, 2007 · 6 Comments · Blogging, Irish Blog Awards, Social Media

Maman Poulet and her rooster are sitting at home after a hectic evening. (Eddie Rockets never tasted so good!) Apologies to all those I did not meet or in fact was rude to as I helped out with registration and tickets etc.

I live blogged the results from the back of the room on Elana‘s mac after remembering that my wireless card is not working at the moment and the GPRS on the xda failed!! Pity that they were lugged over to the hotel before I figured that out. The full winners list is here and I double checked it when I got home in case I missed anyone.
The site went down a few times during the updates which is interesting as is the number of visitors – a reflection on the interest outside of the room in the results?

Some ramblings on the evening…

  • Well done to Red Mum on winning the Best Personal Blog Category. And it was great to meet the Young Wan who with Young Wan’s boyfriend did a much needed stint on the registration desk! (And the Young Wan is an absolutely lovely young wan too – oh that was terrible but I’m so tired….)
  • Twenty Major is not a bad looking chap (this coming from two dykes so be chuffed or mortified Twenty.) Twenty’s delegate from last year was there too – Tim! I’m sorry that I did not get a chance to meet you Twenty but the rooster needed feeding as did I!
  • Damien finally got a fucking award – turning them down all the time Damien never takes any credit for the fact that many of us do this stuff because he encourages us or creates an environment that keeps us going. Bernie gave his award for contribution to the Blogosphere to Damien and it was absolutely the right thing to do. One day Damien will get his full recognition for the evangelism he does on social media, blogs, broadband etc. etc. etc. And it’s all done without a fuss or a back pat seeking mission either…
  • The women from Beaut.ie are lovely and deserved all their awards for the fresh way in which they have approached blogging and the niche they have created. They also won the best dressed women prize (hastily created category on the night I think!). It will be interesting to see how they progress and what other business types adopt their model and style of blogging.
  • Simon and Cian picked up two awards for Irishelection.com. Here’s hoping that in next years awards they’ll pick some up again after successful coverage of the 2007 general election.
  • And I’m looking forward to hearing the official podcast because I missed many of the speeches and most of Rick’s commentary as I tried to blog, and racked my brains on how to use a Mac and key commands etc. (It’s been 10 years or something – yeah Morgan I know how lovely they are and was thinking of you a few times tonight!)

Time to put the feet up, take some painkillers and relax. There was a great buzz tonight, I think people enjoyed themselves and again bloggers showed that they are rather chilled out people and that blogging is something worth celebrating together as well as behind our keyboards.
