You will remember the announcement of a election/candidate blog round up project in this election year. Many thanks for the suggestions of candidate blogs, facebook profiles, twitter accounts etc. Keep them coming!
Simon Harris is becoming the candidate who keeps on giving in my quest to document candidates online in 2009. Earlier this month I brought you news of this Greystones candidate and his press release announcing his intention to canvass.
Yesterday Simon launched his Youtube channel and uploaded his first video. Cue shots of his extensive book collection – loved the inclusion of the book on the Kennedys, copy of the proclamation of the state (oooer!), tricolor, and a piece of crystal (I have a lovely bit too!)
Simon tells us in the video that he is running for Greystones Town Council and Wicklow County Council. This is news to me, the electorate and other candidates in Wicklow as he has not yet been selected to run in the county council election yet.
You may also note that Simon says his candidacy is different (aren’t they all!?) because he does not have family connections to politics. That’s Uncle Councillor John Bailey safely airbrushed out of the picture so!
I’m looking forward to episode 2 and many thanks to circumstances for intervening to bring us the candidacy.

Not to mention the fact that he works for Fine Gael in Leinster House!
Ah yes Keith in the wider sense of family – working for Senator Frances Fitzgerald should count too
You have to check out Garrett Tubridy as well:
http://garretttubridy.ie/
He’s a Fianna Fail candidate who doesn’t have the Fianna Fail logo on his homepage. He’s made a brave pledge to clean up the wealthiest and most privileged parts of Dublin.
The Fianna Fail logo is at the bottom of the website. click enter site and scroll down to the bottom.
Hi squid…I didn’t say it wasn’t anywhere on his site, just not on the homepage. And once you click past the first page, it’s in a fairly inconspicuous location on the inside page, down in a corner. You don’t normally have to scroll right down to see the party logo on a politician’s website. Just saying.
