HSE officials and government press secretaries were probably cheering yesterday. Brenda is being replaced as a morning anchor on Newstalk by rockstud and calm voiced Tom Dunne. (Take a Parachute is one of my all time favourite songs.)
The Irish Times reports that Brenda is looking forward to getting back into ‘scripted radio?’ Is that reading out her Sunday Times columns on air? Yyyyyyyyyyawn. At least the unscripted closeted anti dyke stuff will cease.
I’m going to miss Orla Barry though – especially the weekly film/gossip bit she did with a Alan Silverman from California and also her interest in things bloggy/social media.
All change in morning radio – now if only someone would move Gerry aside for Rick and the radio listening world would be a much happier place.

I can’t stand Brenda Power, the sanctimonious old biddy. Her phonecall doorstepping of politicians was just embrarrassing.

Tom Dunne on talk radio? WTF? That’s a serious loss to all music lovers. The man has impeccable taste. Terrible news.
What no more of the biatch Brenda what will become of her and Tom on Newstalk whats going on.

I actually thought it was a joke when I first heard that Tom Dunne was moving to Newstalk! I just can’t imagine how he’ll work playing “occasional music tracks”. It makes no sense. They must be paying him a tonne because otherwise it seems like a ludicrous move!
I am a daily walker and really enjoyed listening to newstalk with Brenda Power as I walked. She may not be everyone’s cup of tea but I think she was excellent and I looked forward to the show each morning. No disrepect to the current presenter but I find his show shallow and without depth like a lot of the other newbies out there. We need serious discussion that makes us use our intellect (those of us that have any). Let the HSE cheer, they have little enough to cheer about. You have lost a listener!
