CIE Chair’s pension – Giving uppable?

April 28th, 2010 · 5 Comments · Irish Politics

You may not have noticed that the government reappointed John Lynch as chairperson of CIE last week. Lynch who is 68 was previously CEO of FAS, (pre Roddy days) for which he is paid €100,000 each year in a pension. He has been Chair of CIE for 10 years – his salary as chair of CIE? €239,000 per annum. Fianna Fáil likes Mr. Lynch, he does seem to do the ministers bidding and of course keeps the Minister for Transport away from the mess that is the butchering of public transport.

Not the highest salary in the semi state sector but if I were a FF TD forced to give up a ministerial pension or an EU Commissioner who has forgone her pensions while earning €239,000 per year I’d be asking questions about Mr. Lynch’s salary package and why he’s allowed draw a state pension while earning as much as the Taoiseach?. Has he got a car too?
