Green’s oppose cuts to pensioners

November 7th, 2010 · No Comments · Equality, Green Party, Irish Politics

Interesting press release (aka kite being flown) in tonight from Mary White, Minister for State for Equality and Deputy Leader of the Green Party. (She’s even tweeting about it!) Ms. White was speaking out against recent comments which said that pensioners can bear cuts and said that they ‘were both insulting and inaccurate.’

“Studies for support groups such as Age Action Ireland show that pensioners are very vulnerable to falling into poverty,” she said. “We also know that people who now depend upon pensions are of a generation which made many sacrifices for their families and the country.”

“I know that many hard-pressed families are also fretful about the prospect of cuts in pensions for their elderly relatives,” she added.

So I’m looking forward to similar statements protecting the rights of children, women and people with disabilities? The game of not playing one group off against the others has many players. However some have more supporters (aka voting intentions) than others.
