Ivor’s got a Forum

March 9th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Irish Politics, Recession

Everyone seems to be on the une nouvelle idée gravytrain (I dare not say anything about new ideas, ideascampaign or whatever or else Senator Alan Kelly will be after me for robbing something or Aileen O’Toole will be telling us the umpteen thousandth idea she’s received.)

Today’s inbox featured another buzzword laden missive from a politician announcing a new initiative.

The forum, entitled IC Business Forum (Ivor Callely Business Forum), will commence at 5.45pm on Thursday, 12 March in Clontarf Castle and will focus on clever initiatives that need to be taken by businesses in Ireland in order to survive the recession come out in a stronger, more prosperous position.

The IC Business Forum? Not a vanity project then Senator? And the ownership of the ideas would be who’s?

Speaking today, Senator Callely, whose responsibilities in the Seanad include Enterprise, Trade and Employment, said: “I have been approached by many local business people who are facing great challenges in these uncertain and difficult times.”

The business people were probably not offering to pay for his painting this time I suppose.

“We must not underestimate our challenges or overstate our difficulties, but most importantly, we should be positive about our future and made aware of the opportunities at present,” said Senator Callely.

Meanwhile one can’t help but note and recommend the SME’s/Entrepreneurs who are doing talking and ideas without ego, SEO games and the like at Bizcamp and (And Bizcamp in Limerick on the 21st) and not a politicians bandwagon jumping near it!
