Niall McElwee – did something happen in Waterford Institute of Technology?

I have received information that the Minister for Education was contacted during Niall McElwee’s tenure in Waterford Institute of Technology by other staff members expressing concern at numerous irregularities surrounding his employment there. No action or reply was received from the Minister in response to this complaint according to my informant.
Given the nature of the contacts I have had detailing different concerns I wonder when the finger might point in Waterford Institute of Technology’s direction during whatever investigation will take place.
The WIT is very quiet considering he was asked not to use controversial visual images in lectures, as reported on the news/examiner. Who was the Minister for Education involved?
Don’t you think vetting for all Irish public jobs is a little lax? In my experience with two different third level institutions, unless the management directs the work, few CVs get fact-checked prior to interview panels. And that soft touch seems to apply to directorships of high level Irish boards as well.
Poetry Book
Óisín’s Journey Home by Dr. Niall McElwee & Dr. John Ennis is a selection of poetry that wiil remind the the reader of the vision, hard work and determination of all the people who made the railway possible and made it become the transportation system that it was.
Dr John Ennis is now Head of School at WIT

He was head of Humanities, and in charge of Child Care while Dr Niall McElwee was at WIT.
Re Dr Niall McElwee

More on the issue in today’s Irish Mirror, including more on an AIT staff member’s complaint about harrassment.
Don’t think we should start insinuating something about WIT personnel without some evidence tho JJ, I know where he used to work.
[...] As reported on this blog yesterday evening, complaints about McElwee’s career progression made to the Minister of Education are also covered in today’s papers. I have received other information on concerns regarding the appointment of Dr. McElwee and his conduct in WIT which will no doubt be covered by the media in the next week. If the people concerned are contacting bloggers, they are surely on the phone to Talbot Street. As I thought on Thursday night when I first posted on the matter this story has legs. At least as many as a spider… Why the HSE in Athlone didn’t tell AIT about what happened in Amsterdam are the least of the issues involved. The terms of reference of the investigation will probably be very limited. [...]
[...] Posted by suzybie on 19 Jul 2007 at 09:55 am | Tagged as: Uncategorized, Niall McElwee Several of the lecturers who called for an investigation of the practices and career progression of Dr. Naill McElwee in 2000 have called for the terms of reference of the inquiry to be widened. As mentioned here first on Saturday, 3 female lecturers had written to then Minister for Education, Micheal Martin and expressed their concern on the manner in which McElwee was promoted in WIT, the use of slides containing images of abused children and his attitude towards fellow lecturers.
