Tonight I thought I’d take the night off and get an early night (ok earlyish) but I’m still awake and not live blogging. My fingers are itching to write on this…
02.12 John McCain got the Irish Corporate Tax Rate wrong again. It’s actually 12.5 percent Senator, one of the few things that Brian Lenihan, Minister for Finance and cruelty to older people, class sizes, car parking spaces etc., did not put up yesterday.
I maybe back to this post if I stay up any longer but it’s like watching paint dry at the moment and CNN is down on NTL so there are none of those heartbeat type monitors showing public reaction to the candidates drivel to keep me amused!
2.41 I’m still up, they’ve done the mudslinging bits – well McCain has tried and Obama has explained. Now they are onto the VP’s and their suitability. Hope the fact checkers are looking at the ways in which Sarah Palin has not supported ‘special needs’ children in her time as Mayor and Governor. McCain has rolled out Palin’s great work on the issue – she has a child with a disability – but she has no track record in working in the area or being particularly generous.
Someone called Joe the Plumber featured an awful lot during tonights debate. Not sure if McCain has modelled it on Joe Wurzelbacher, a plumber from Toledo, Ohio who was on Fox News yesterday after meeting Obama and not being convinced by him. But John McCain has been talking to Joe all through the Debate – I think Joe Wurzelbacher is going to be a bit busy the next while and it won’t be at plumbing!

I’ve been around too many salesmen. I don’t trust Obama’s “coolness”. Obama’s “explanations” aren’t convincing me – and they aren’t convincing half the nation. Many of us like real people, and Sarah Palin is real. She’ll be a great VP. As for me and my house, we agree with McCain on the issues.
Yes, Joe the Plumber was Joe Wurzelbacher. He represents many of us small business owners – many of who aren’t liking Obama’s economic plan. He can’t cut taxes to 95% of the population and yet still fund all the different programs he claims he’ll fund. He’s making empty campaign promises.

Joe the plumber thinks Obama’s politics are “socialist”. Just like Paddy the Plasterer then.
I can’t help but think that Palin’s commitment to the disability sphere surfaced only after she found herself in the situation. Which would be at least consistent with her political philosophy of being a mé feiner.
You deserve a medal for wading through THREE debates!
I’ve got to take issue with Lisam…. Sarah Palin is real? Will be a great VP? We need a reality check here. The woman is completely toxic. She holds her disabled child for a photo opp and then quickly hands the babe off to her older daughter, with about as much motherly instinct as a feral beast. This is totally unsurprising as she happily sent her son to Iraq so she could also be a military mom. She is totally fake: not real Alaskan (not born there), she recycles the same spiel over and over again, without an idea of her own in her head. And, her hapless interviews…
I would have preferred Hillary, but now the choice is down to two, I’d go for Obama’s “cool” over Mad Dog McCain anyday! McCain is completely out of touch with how to respond to and manage the global economy today. What I like about Obama – and I’ve come to this via much critical thinking – is that he has taken cognizance of our shift to what Zygmunt Bauman has termed liquid modernity.
