It’s only slightly worse that the ‘push yer mate round campus in a wheelchair‘ type exercises I’ve seen carried out in Irish third level institutions or ‘blindfold yourself and be dragged round campus to fall into things.’
I really hope someone got fired for this. Cringe-making doesn’t begin to describe the insult.
Jesus.
I mean, really, Jesus.
Crikey! It’s like they mean “Disability Awareness Month” as in “Stranger Danger”.
I’m a bit bewildered as to exactly what they were thinking of when they planned this. That it has come from a “Disability Resource Office” is amazing. What is the point of photographing somebody in a wheelchair? Besides, many disabilities are not visible ones. At least the blindfold yourself exercises are designed to give people a taste of what it might feel like to be unable to see. This simply objectifies disabled students or staff.
I used to hate it when UCDSU did the ‘push yer mate round campus in a wheelchair’ type to raise awarness fo students with disabilities. It is just so patronising!
I wonder what Uni this was in?you’ve just got to laugh really……
