Standing for Spellchecks

March 24th, 2009 · 8 Comments · Elections, Irish Politics

Déirdre De Búrca a name too hard for a url? Instead we get WhatIStandfor.ie for the Green’s Candidate for the Dublin Constituency in the European Parliament Elections.

We also get an interesting spelling of thousands according to this picture of Senator De Búrca’s billboard in today’s Irish Times.  Senator De Búrca launched her campaign yesterday evening.

Harry McGee reports the Greens were putting the spelling/proofing/campaign mistake under S for spilt milk.

Oooops.  It can only get better. Right?

Free Lollipops for spottings of billboard around the city before it get’s taken down – or maybe banksyed Irish style? Election season has begun!

    What Is Tand For.com?

This is my favourite post of the week so far :)

LOL! The party is just useless. This latest Irish gaff comes after I saw a tv news item by the UK Green Party leader who proclaimed that changing lightbulbs and asking people to recycle and do their washing at 30 degrees was a betrayal of Green politics (or represented a watering down of Green politics). Maybe this comment hasn’t reached Andrew’s St yet??

I think the Green Party website is wrong too, as I heard it was actually:
http://www.sorry for the mess we got ya into.ie

Suzy, what of the website itself? Have you had a chance to look through that yet? Hopefully the typo won’t put you off. I’d genuinely appreciate your feedback on it.

Oh, and our wannabe banksy(e?)s needn’t bother starting a campaign just yet to improve literacy in political communications. The billboard and bus shelter ads are spelt proper, like. The gremlin only got into the promo admobile truck…

I tell you what I stand for: the national anthem at the end of the night….with my hands down by my side too.

So, the DART whizzed by slightly too quickly to take a photo, but a billboard – complete with typo, is on the Southbound platform of Tara St. station :)

Thanks Noel – the Green Party Press Office assures us otherwise! And Damian I’ll be back with some comments after I’ve finished reeling from censorship ala your partners in Government ;)
