Bludget Week

April 6th, 2009 · 7 Comments · Blogging, Irish Politics, Live Blogging, Recession

Marian Finucane stumbled over the B word a few weeks ago in reference to tomorrow’s Emergency Budget and Bludget seems most apt in terms of the fear that exists in some quarters. Over the weekend there was some downplaying saying it was not going to be as bad as feared – this even after the alarming exchequer figures released last week!?

Yesterday Fianna Fáil released another video of An Taoiseach addressing the nation (or people who happen to drop by the FF website). No stumbling here, but we’re told that ‘we’ll come through it and at the end of the day look back and be proud of the collective effort we all made’. (Too easy I know to ask if it’s the collective effort to mess things up.)

Tomorrow afternoon as it all unfolds in Dáil Eireann there will be a live blog of the Emergency/Supplementary/Not so Mini Budget. Please come over and join in the analysis and reaction to Minister Brian Lenihan and the speeches of the opposition spokespersons. The tag for the microbloggers on Twitter is #bludget.

In the meantime if you are undertaking reality avoidance measures (or like me have not got a clue what will happen or what is best in the national interest) you may wish to play the fantasy budget and listen to others speculate thanks to Newstalk.
