Maman Poulet | Clucking away crookedly through media, politics and life

Form an orderly queue there

February 18th, 2010 · 5 Comments · Irish Media, Irish Politics, MSM, Social Media

Thats to all the political correspondents and hacks running to join twitter and talk about it expertly.  It was not long ago you were laughing at it and those of us who use it and read it.

Now its ‘the twitter that did it’ and ‘tweeted out of office’.

So was Dan Boyle’s tweet planned or off the cuff? What will his next tweet say? When will someone tweet from the pol corrs seats?

I await the expert articles and socmediagooru’s writing politics posts.

Presumably somebody’s already make the sendboylehome joke? Although as a Corkonian, I’d prefer if we sent him somewhere else. The man makes Biffo look comptentent and believable.

Clearly planned, and impressively-astute, I think.

Boyle has, since about this time last year, taken it upon himself to be the wild card.

The party committing to coalition for the duration of the Dail, repeatedly, is a problem for them — if FF knows this is their intent then it’s all carrots and no sticks, and they have no incentive to give the Greens so much as a table scrap. For this to work for them, someone has to credibly plant the belief in the larger govt party that the Greens are prepared, if necessary, to shoot them in the face. Nobody in the Dail can do so (four on the government payroll, one pseudoscientific antimedicine quack and the village idiot), and nobody in the real world has any idea who De Burca is.

Which leaves Dan Boyle. IMHO Sean O’Rourke pulled the trapdoor today on the RTE Radio 1 News at One. But Boyle deliberately put the noose on Willie last night in the certain knowledge that he’d be forced into resignation before Cowen permitted the Deputy Leader of the Seanad to vote against him in a confidence motion.

The key thing here is that evidently Boyle has done enough work for FF to believe there’s a serious risk that he might have voted against confidence. Doesn’t matter what we think the likelihood was – it matters how Fianna Fail calculated that risk.

So it’s my opinion that Dan Boyle is primarily responsible for knifing O’Dea today. I’m not sure whether to be impressed or not that Dan’s electoral upside here is zero (because it *is* zero), or not.

Clearly planned certainly, but I think you’re giving him too much credit with “astute”. Boyle has difficulty pulling his pants up in the morning. Martin Cullen makes him look clever.

In an hours time I will don my Munster jersey and WALK for only the 3rd time in this season to Musgrave Park, thanks to DBoyle. I spit and hiss at the mention of his name.
