In reply to a Dáil question from Aengus O’Snodaigh TD. the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform has announced that IBEC have provided replacements for the two places on the board of the Equality Authority which were vacated last week by Dennis O’Flynn and Finola McDonnell. Those resignations were in a personal capacity. No news on who the new board members are or if ICTU will be making similar replacements.

Which, by my calculations, brings them back up to the magic number of 12?!
Exactly Neil – you could positively read the delight/relief off the page in the written answer!!
All the more reason for those who remain on the board from NGO organisations to do the decent thing.
I had a look at the PQ. Peculiarly, the Minister doesn’t name the the two new IBEC individuals. Has he actually got two nominees or has an official paraphrased and exaggerated the statement by IBEC that it would appoint two replacements. One presumes that would require a decision of its executive board or some such, and that (a) may take some time and (b) might not go smoothly if any of the members query the point of appointing replacements who felt there was little point is staying on the EA board.
