Iona Institute asking leading questions again

It’s 2009 and time for another survey from the Iona Institute. A new phone survey is reported in today’s Irish Times but I can’t find any questions on same sex relationships in Patsy McGarry’s report but I’m sure they are there or David Quinn will be inferring them throughout the day when he’s on the radio etc. loving the sinners and hating the sin!

Main non talking points…

  • 92 per cent of the public support a child’s right to a mother and a father.
  • 72 per cent believe parents should decide what is best for children instead of an outside agency, except in cases of abuse or neglect. (ie. no sex education or stay safe programmes or health education.)
  • 61% agreed “in general it is better for children if their parents are married?. (Apple pie is wonderful also!)
  • Eighteen per cent disagreed and 21 per cent had no opinion.

Fine Gaelers were more supportive of marriage followed by FF, Labour, Sinn Fein and Green Supporters. (Resists urge to note that Greens are last on list and make comparisons to renaging on party policy…)

I wait for full publication on the Iona Institute website of the complete report… could be waiting a long time but let us see!

    >61% agreed “in general it is better for children if their parents are married?.

So, by inference, 39% think that it’s not necessarily better. That’s progress, if ever I’ve heard it.

I’m curious why the Iona Institute doesn’t support suing God for depriving children of their mother or father in the event of they dying? After all if they have a right to them shouldn’t the state be prepared to vindicate that right in court?

Also, how would those surveys work out if ‘your parents’ was used in place of ‘parents’ in the question? i.e. “your parents should decide what is best for you instead of an outside agency, except in cases of abuse or neglect.”

61% agreed “in general it is better for children if their parents are married?.

Hmmm… Can we infer then that this 61% would like to see the ban on same-sex marriage removed at least for those same-sex couples who have children?

I’m sure some radio presenter this evening will ask him about supporting marriage as a result of this finding ;)

Who presses the keys for you guys?

To all pro abortionists and pro choice supporters. The loudest scream will rend the air: there will be rivers of blood, and the anguish suffered by old decrepit women with fading tatoos and nicotine stained fingers as they rock back and forth beside the rotting corpses of the aborted young will haunt them till the day of reckoning. Unharden your hearts. John

Thats great news. 61% in favour of same sex marriage.

On the “72 per cent believe parents should decide what is best for children instead of an outside agency, except in cases of abuse or neglect.” Believing something doesn’t make it right. Doesn’t make it wrong either. But what the hell do Iona believe in the tyranny of the majority.

This ‘John’ guy seems charming, MP ;)

Aye Neil – that was only some of his comments last night :)
