Please no more flashmobs

October 10th, 2010 · 3 Comments · LGBT

There has been a lot of anger and action in the USA in recent weeks regarding increasing prominence of suicides of young LGBT’s and the bullying and violence which has emerged as a contributing factor.

On Friday in Grand Central Station in New York a group of activists staged a flashmob die in to highlight the issue.

Sigh
– Flashmobs are really overdone and over. (it won’t stop certain lgbt groups here doing one in next twelve months)
– They should be quiet or at least not shoutfests for your point – if the audience don’t get the point from what you are doing during the mobbing then it’s not worth doing.
– The group used the word Apartheid in their banner (something that Irish Activists have done repeatedly in recent years despite the term applying only as a form of discrimination in South Africa).

Now this one which I saw a few weeks ago had a bit more going for it. (Protest by lgbt union activists in San Francisco against hotel workers exploitation and terms and conditions).
