Maman Poulet | Clucking away crookedly through media, politics and life

Taking the d out it :)

March 3rd, 2009 · 12 Comments · Blogging, Irish Media, Live Blogging, Ryan Tubridy

24 searches for Madame Poulet yesterday – Contrary to popular belief I’ve never run a house of ill repute or appeared in an opera by Puccini :)

I assume my diction is a little poor from the radio chat with Mr. Tubridy and Damien yesterday but people found me anyway. It was very enjoyable and to hear Val and her special brand of engagement with himself. Ryan can’t say he doesn’t understand us or know anything about blogging and please don’t hesitate to ask a blogger for their qualified or otherwise opinions on so many things!

Anyway back to normal now and time for a bit of sleep, catching up on reading and some tlc etc. If you are new here welcome, enjoy, don’t forget to dip into irishblogs.ie for everyone else and let me know what you think along the way.

Well so long as nobody tried searching for “mother chicken” as he put it. Great interview yesterday, I’m surprised that bloggers still have to defend their art.

I’m not trying to score a cheap shot here but Tubridy was even more toe-curlingly embarrassing than usual when talking with your good self and Damian yesterday (the only reason I listened, by the way) The man is incapable of letting a discussion develop and flow and this problem is certainly not confined to yesterday’s discussion on blogging, in which his wild swings of logic and ability to reduce anything to lowest common denominator were as apparent as ever.

Congrats for not rising to the bait when he tried to irk you with his comments about your site.

His pre-eminence in the broadcasting field tells you all you need to know about the state of the Irish meeja …

Hey, at least they weren’t searching for “Madman Poulet”, eh? :)

heard you and Damian on Tubridy – it is no exaggeration to say – he just doesn’t get it. glad to see it has increased interest in the blog, it certainly decreased my interest in his show.

Ryan Tubridy couldn’t be more clueless about blogging if he tried. This guy isn’t even old, he should be embarrassed by how prejudiced he is toward blogging and the internet in general! “You can’t believe anything on the internet, I worry for todays young people researching stuff on the internet.” – eh would that include everything on RTE’s website Ryan? *Sigh*

Ok- I put this off for 36hrs- listening to Tubridy- a boy sent out to do a woman’s job, (come back Marion Finucane, life on weekdays is so barren withou you) that man is so up his own narrow, very narrow asshole- he cannot engage with new ideas, he cant engage with women, they make him stutter unless they play the girly role and he sure as hell hasnt got the first clue about 21st century living. He makes me want to kick the cat- just as well I havent got one, or that I know where the arms dumps are!

There’s more than one truth here. First off, Tubridy does manage to come across as techno-indifferent, buying popular internet cliches, but lets face it, so do a hell of a lot of people. It’s not just that many people don’t get blogs, it’s that they don’t _care_. And don’t even mention twitter.

Confession time, I don’t really see the point of twitter myself. I mean, why would I want to subscribe to someone’s SMS? I followed the #ffaf feed at the weekend, and my impressions are that it was low on information (though admittedly, so was the ard fheis), and that it served to create a consensus that was reflected afterwards in the blogs. Admittedly, I’m working from a sample of one, so I’m not sure if the tweets created the consensus, or just reflected a group of people who started out with similar views anyway.

Finally, does anyone really think Marian Finucane would be any more techno-literate? A better interviewer perhaps, but would she (or any other RTE interviewer) really ‘get it’?

  • Marie

@Gerard- Marion Finucane would at least keep an open mind on something she might not know a whole lot about AND she’d do better research.

  • Gerard Cunningham

Marie: I agree with partly with you, she would certainly do a better interview, but then I remember some of the dietary and alternate medicine quscks she has indulged over the years.

At least it wasn’t Dave Fanning, who interrupts half his guests to announce how bored and uninterested he is.

  • Green Ink

@Gerard any consensus in blog posts that appeared after #ffaf merely reflects the wider one out there: that this Government is useless.

  • Gerard Cunningham

    @Green Ink: There is that…

Thanks for the link love Suzy.

I wish Tubridy would move on from the “Wikipedia isn’t accurate” argument to rubbish the whole internet. Most people using Wikipedia know what it is and know it’s limitations.

Well done on calmly trying to steer him in the right direction despite his out-dated arguments.
