Now the US Election is over (those of you with withdrawal symptoms should keep an eye to the Hag of Beara for her posts on campaigning in Ohio) we have returned to the lucky bag that is RTE’s Questions and Answers for live blogging sustenance.

Last nights panel : Olivia Mitchell (very invisible Fine Gael TD), Maureen Gaffney (Psychologist), Sean Connick (FF Backbencher), David Quinn (Director of the Iona Institute), and Edward Walsh (Former President of University of Limerick)

The Topics covered included
– Introduction of non jury trials for people from Limerick (which led to a lot of stuff about single parent families and crime),
– The Civil Partnership Bill,
– The demise of the PD’s, and
– The impact on Ireland of the election of Barack Obama.

I’ll come back to some issues raised (and the manner they were raised!) in later posts but in the true spirit of we watch it so you don’t have to – the live blog is below.

“Agreed @Conor – they would never have a gay person from a group on the panel! far too much like equality – Instead we get earnest young people in audience who look like they are attacking that lovely married man who seems reasonable.”

Actually, Suzy, they did once have a gay person from a group on the panel… me, 4 years ago talking about gay adoptions.. that was in the days before being gay and married became the “respectable” face of Irish queers.LOL

Ah but you were a columnist – another rite of passage it seems before you can get on the panel! ;)

Some day over the rainbow they may have a lowly blogger :D
